Local suggestions on how to recycle waste.

Victory Village, Legazpi.

The Philippines is one of the countries in the world with the largest consumption of plastic, but only a small part is recycled. The Philippines' high consumption of plastic can be explained by two factors: poverty and poor waste management.

It is often cheap to buy toothpaste, shampoo and even food in small disposable containers that the companies happily produce and distribute. However, waste management cannot keep up with the increasing consumption of disposable plastic. Despite the fact that the waste is collected, it is not handled properly, and a large part of it therefore ends up in canals and rivers, only to run into the sea later.
