The Philippines has experienced large population growth over the past 100 years. Where the population of 1920 was just over 10 million, it has now grown to almost 107 million inhabitants. However, the Philippines is following the general trend in the world at the same time, and the country's growth is now decreasing year by year.

43,7 procent af befolkningen bor i dag i urbane områder – et tal, der steg fra 28,7 procent til 48,6 procent mellem 1955 og 1990.
