Life in the slum is hard and often difficult to find work.

Manila.

The statistics on unemployment in the Philippines looks good. According to figures from the World Bank, only 2.35 percent of the population eligible for work are unemployed. But that's just one side of the story.

About 2.4 million Filipinos work abroad. Part of the explanation for this must be found in problems of getting a proper job in the home country. Overseas work allows Filipinos to make money and support their families, but the back side of the medal is often long working days, poor working conditions and loneliness away from family and friends.
